Where I Am Right Now: Midwifery School, Work, and a New Season of Life

I’m currently enrolled in midwifery school, pursuing a Master of Science as a Certified Midwife, and this season of my life looks very different than the one before it.

I’m paying for graduate school with student loans and treating my education like the priority it is. Because of that, I’m taking doula clients selectively and sporadically, only when I have the capacity to serve them well without compromising my studies. This isn’t stepping back from the work; it’s being honest about bandwidth.

Alongside school, I’m still providing lactation support, teaching childbirth education, and remaining open to leading yoga sessions for events, schools, and organizations when the alignment is right. These roles continue to ground me in community and practice, even as my focus shifts deeper into clinical learning.

This first semester of graduate school has been humbling and hard. There’s no polished way to say that. I’m being challenged academically and personally, and I’m learning how to sit with not knowing everything while still trusting the path I’m on.

At the same time, I’m navigating a major shift at home. My son is now in college, supported by financial aid and some out-of-pocket costs from me. Becoming an empty nester has forced me to trust that I raised a capable, thoughtful human and to let go in ways I didn’t anticipate. Some nights, dinner is cereal because I don’t feel like cooking, and honestly, I’ve made peace with that.

I’m enjoying this phase of life, even as I’m still figuring it out. It’s quieter, more focused, and less performative. I’m learning how to balance ambition with sustainability and presence with responsibility.

If you’re looking for a speaker, educator, or facilitator in maternal health, birth work, lactation, or movement, I’m open to conversations about aligned, paid opportunities during this season. My capacity is selective, but my commitment to the work is steady.

This isn’t a finish line.

It’s a checkpoint.

And right now, this is where I am.
